The Panasonic KX-TG5456S 5.8GHz GigaRange Digital Cordless Phone features 5.8 GHz Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) Technology. FHSS technology improves calling range and clarity, and eliminates cross talk. Because it rapidly changes transmission frequencies within the 5.8GHz bandwidth, this cordless system helps reduce the possibility of eavesdropping. 5.8GHz technology operates on a different wavelength with much less traffic than 2.4GHz technology, yet maintains outstanding levels of security, clarity and range. Plus, 5.8GHz technology will not interfere with wireless computer networks using 900MHz or 2.4GHz technology.

Among the KX-TG5456S' features that set Panasonic apart from the competition are a Customized Ringer that lets the user record up to 90 seconds of sound -- such as a song, movie clip or the user's own voice -- from any audio source and use it as the ringer. A 1.4-inch, high-resolution color (4,000 colors) LCD provides access to large icons for easy programming and one-touch access to various telephone features. Several types of Caller ID are available, including Ringer ID, which assigns a specific ring to a chosen telephone number; and Picture ID, which links a picture to a given phone number. Light Up ID lets you program the phone to associate one of four colored LEDs located at the end of the handset antenna with a specific phone number. Talking Caller ID uses true text-to-speech software to phonetically speak the names received by Caller ID. Call Waiting Caller ID displays the Caller ID information of a second caller, even if the user is currently on another call.

The KX-TG5456S also features an All-Digital Answering System. With no tapes to reset or rewind, operation is virtually silent. Once callers reach the answering system, a voice prompt guides them through the task of leaving a message. A total of 21 minutes worth of messages can be recorded. Messages are automatically stamped with the date and time they were received. All recorded messages are held in flash memory, so they'll survive any power interruptions or failures.
