8.4-Megapixel 16:9 CCD and Wide-Angle 28mm LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT Lens The DMC-LX1 features a 4x optical zoom with a wide 28mm field of view (35mm equivalent) when shooting in the 16:9 aspect ratio at 8-megapixel resolution. This and the world's first 16:9 CCD with 8.4 million effective pixels give you superb image quality over a wide shooting range. The Extended Optical Zoom, which minimizes the image degradation that normally occurs with digital zooming, gives you up to 5x for 5.5-megapixel image recording in 16:9 aspect.

Taking Hand Movement Out of the Picture with MEGA Optical Image Stabilization All of us have taken a shot that we thought was focused perfectly, only to have it turn out blurry. The most common cause of this is hand movement. Digital cameras are wonderfully light and compact -- but for the same reason they can also be hard to hold still. Even pressing the shutter button can cause the camera to move. And most people use the LCD monitor (with arms outstretched)to frame a shot -- great for getting the shot you want, but most likely adds to the likelihood of hand movement. Basically, hand movement is a real concern anytime you're taking a handheld telephoto shot, macro shot or self-portrait, or when shooting at night or in dim lighting.

Optical Image Stabilization ON
The answer to the hand movement problem? An advanced optical image stabilizing system that we call MEGA Optical Image Stabilization. This system uses built-in gyrosensors to detect even tiny camera movement and then shifts a lens in the opposite direction to compensate. The system is completely optical -- it does not affect the CCD or image processing ? so you get sharp, clear images with minimal degradation. It lets you reduce the shutter speed more than 3 steps below1 the conventionally accepted hand movement limit, which is calculated as 1/focal length (1 divided by the focal length). It greatly expands what you can do with a handheld digital camera.
Quick Choice of Three Aspect Modes A switch at the top of the lens barrel lets you choose an aspect ratio of normal 4:3, wide 16:9 or the 3:2 used in film cameras2.
Easy-to-See 2.5" Diagonal Bright, High-Resolution LCD The DMC-LX1's 2.5" diagonal LCD monitor is unusually large for a camera this compact. And with 207,000 pixels, it has the high resolution you need to see your subject clearly. For easier viewing outdoors on a sunny day, just press the Power LCD button and the monitor becomes about 40% brighter.
Super-Fast Shutter Response and MEGA BURST? Consecutive Shooting Thanks to the Venus Engine? II's release time lag (not including auto-focusing time) of around 0.01 seconds, the DMC-LX1 is super-fast. You can snap off consecutive shots at a swift 3 frames per second with full resolution (max. 9 images in standard mode/5 images in fine mode). And with Unlimited Consecutive Shooting3, you can keep shooting until the SD Memory Card is full.
Manual Exposure and Focus with Joystick Ease It's easy to manually adjust the exposure and focus using the joystick on the camera back. You can set the aperture, shutter speed and focus with your thumb while framing your shot on the LCD monitor. There's also Manual Focus Assist. This function helps you get a perfect focus by magnifying the center part of the image on the LCD monitor and displaying a bar graph of the focal distance and depth of the field. Press and hold down the joystick, and you can also instantly change four key settings -- white balance, ISO sensitivity, image size and image quality -- while viewing the subject on the monitor. There's no need to switch to the menu screen.
Varies with shooting conditions.
